Our Chokwe wool accent pillows are #blackhairlove personified. Bondeko means "brotherhood" the Bantu language of the artists who originally carved these delicate, decorative combs. Wondrous wool from New Zealand is dyed by hand using natural dyes. The entire front surface of the throw pillow is hand-embroidered using a 2,000 year old technique called the chain stitch. The back is off-white cotton canvas. Add character to your couch with a touch of texture.

MATERIALS & CARE
Hand-dyed New Zealand Grade A wool embroidery. Cotton canvas back.
Gently hand wash in cool water using fine-garment detergent. Never twist, wring or tumble dry. Lay flat and air dry. Eco-friendly dry cleaning is also ok, ensure perc (perchloroethylene) solvent is not used.

CHAINSTITCH EMBROIDERY
In Kashmir, one of the most fundamental forms of embroidery is the chainstitch, a series of looped stitches that create chain-like patterns. Because artists in Kashmir have been working with wool for a minute (since the 3rd century), perfecting our pillows is light work. The embroiderer uses an ari, a hooked needle attached to a long wooden handle, to pull wool thread from the underside of the cotton canvas to the top. The entire front surface of the pillow is chainstitched by hand. Detail for days.
For our chainstitch pillows, we source wondrous wool from New Zealand, not only because it amply absorbs natural dyes, but it's also super soft.
