According to the legend, winter came, and what a winter it was. Amazigh (Berber) patterns and symbols have been a part of tribal history for millenia, collectively telling the stories and traditions of a people. We retell that history in this rustic design, framing tribal motifs within a signature MADE x HANDS chain link border. This piece stays true to Moroccan rug tradition of using sheep’s wool, dyed by hand with natural dyes and hand knotting.

NATURAL MATERIALS

CASHMERE FROM KASHMIR

At MADE x HANDS we've chosen to source our cashmere and weave our throw blankets exclusively in Kashmir.

Although different breeds of cashmere goat are found in Nepal, Tibet and Mongolia, some of the finest fibers are from the Changra goat found only in Kashmir. Changras are raised on the highest permanently inhabited plateau in the world, the Changthang plateau, altitude 17,000 feet. This high up, nights are bitterly cold. Too harsh for humans but ideal conditions for stimulating the growth of the goat's super soft, cashmere undercoat.

Kashmir is not only famous for the fiber but also for the artists who have spun and woven cashmere for generations. True OG's. Historical texts describe cashmere scarves woven in Kashmir as early as the 3rd century BC. We only entrust the hand dyeing and hand weaving of this majestic material to our artists in Kashmir.

NATURAL DYES

HAND-CRAFTED COLOR

Natural dyeing is an art. A timeless testament to human harmony with nature. Knowledge of the exact ingredients to create color, and the best mordants and methods to ensure color fastness only comes from extensive experience.

MADE x HANDS only produces handmade, naturally-dyed products with colors derived from plants, vegetables and minerals. Natural dyes ensure our pieces are non-toxic, non-allergenic and biodegradable. Natural dyes are infinitely better for the environment, coming from 100% natural and renewable sources. Unlike synthetic dyes, which taint textiles with harmful carcinogens. Aesthetically, natural dyes create subtle variations in color that can never be copied by chemicals. Our natural dyes are much harder and meaningfully more expensive to make. Worth it.
